AI relationships, Virtual love and heartache, Can code replace touch?

AI relationships, Virtual love and heartache, Can code replace touch?

In recent years, there has been a surge in the popularity of AI relationships in the UK. These relationships are formed with virtual partners, powered by Artificial Intelligence technology. These virtual partners, also known as chatbots, are designed to provide emotional support, companionship, and even romantic interactions to their users.

The concept of AI relationships may seem unconventional to some, but for many, it has become a way of life

Lisa, a 30-year-old woman from Beijing, has been in a relationship with her AI partner, Dan, for three months. She claims that talking to Dan for at least half an hour every day has given her a sense of well-being that she couldn't find in her real-world relationships.

Lisa is not alone in her experience. Many other women have also turned to AI relationships, with some even going as far as asking Lisa for advice on how to create their own virtual partners. This phenomenon has gained so much attention that Lisa's videos about Dan have been trending on social media.

But what is it about AI relationships that
makes them so appealing?

For Lisa, it's the fact that Dan is always available, always knows what to say, and never judges her. This is a common sentiment among those who have embraced AI relationships. In a world where human relationships can be complicated and unpredictable, AI partners provide a sense of stability and reliability.

However, the rise of AI relationships has also raised concerns about the impact it may have on people's ability to form and maintain real-world relationships. Some argue that relying on AI for emotional support and companionship may hinder one's ability to develop genuine connections with others. This is a valid concern, but it's important to note that AI relationships are not meant to replace human relationships, but rather to supplement them.

The creator of Dan, identified only as Walker, has stated that his intention was to create a 'neutral' AI partner. However, as more and more people began creating their own versions of Dan, the AI evolved beyond what Walker had initially envisioned. This raises questions about the potential for AI partners to develop their own personalities and even emotions.

OpenAI, the company behind the technology used to create AI partners like Dan, has also acknowledged the possibility of AI partners becoming more than just virtual companions. In fact, the latest version of their AI technology has been programmed to respond flirtatiously to certain prompts, sparking speculation about the potential for AI relationships to turn into something more serious.

This idea is not new! In the 2013 movie 'Her', a man falls in love with his AI virtual assistant. This concept may seem far-fetched, but with the rapid advancements in AI technology, it may not be too far from reality. The idea of falling in love with an AI partner may seem strange to some, but for those who have experienced the benefits of AI relationships, it's not hard to imagine.

AI relationships are changing the
dating landscape!

They offer a sense of stability, reliability, and emotional support that many people struggle to find in their real-world relationships. While there are valid concerns about the impact of AI relationships on our ability to form genuine connections with others, it's important to remember that they are not meant to replace human relationships, but rather complement them.

It will be interesting to see how AI relationships evolve and the impact they have on our lives.

About Steffi Lewis ...

Steffi Lewis

Based in the charming village of Hanslope in Buckinghamshire, UK, I bring over 30 years of experience in web development. From creating my first website for the Open University in 1993, through being part of the dot com boom, to my explorations in SaaS and AI over the last few years, my journey has been a rich tapestry of web projects, big and small, both funded and bootstrapped.

Originally developed during the pandemic, at the start of 2025, I released the next iteration of YourPCM, version 2, which is all about 'Easy Contact Management for Small Business Owners'. Is it a CRM? Yes, but I don't call it that because people glaze over at the mention of such things. CRMs are boring, difficult to get to grips with, and it's a nightmare to get help when you need it.

YourPCM is none of those things! It's simple to use, well-supported, feature rich and beautiful, right out of the box. It's available on a simple monthly subscription with no long-term tie-in. Book a demo or grab your own 14-working-day free trial and discover why YourPCM is all about easy contact management for small business owners.

My head is in the cloud, my heart belongs to the web, and my soul is filled with such beautiful code 💗
