Why My SaaS Business Is Planting Trees

Going green is easy with an API ...

I'm acutely aware of the energy consumption in my business, especially as a SaaS company. Although our operations occur in the cloud, the vast data centres supporting these services contribute to around 4% of global CO2 emissions ...

Using the Tree Nation API made it really easy for me to integrate automatic tree planing into YourPCM!

Personally, I'm more inclined to support animal charities over 'people' charities, except when playing the National Lottery, which benefits a variety of worthy causes. I regularly support local animal rescue organisations and have long been searching for a cause that aligns with my company, YourPCM.

"That's when I came across Tree Nation!"

They are a European NGO that began with a single project in Niger and is now an official partner of UNEP. I was impressed with their commitment to community tree-planting initiatives worldwide, focusing on reforestation, soil erosion prevention, and environmental enrichment for local inhabitants.

As a countryside dweller raised with a strong appreciation for the environment, I've always believed in the importance of planting more trees. Tree Nation's mission resonated with me, so I decided to explore it further.

Tree Nation aims to reforest the world and fight climate change by planting trees, restoring forests, creating jobs, supporting communities, and protecting biodiversity. They leverage technology to tackle deforestation (responsible for approximately 17% of climate change emissions) and help individuals and companies transition to a sustainable future.

With over 29 million trees planted, 77 projects completed, and nearly 4 billion kilograms of CO2 compensated for, I knew Tree Nation was an organization I could support. I joined 15,000 other companies from the UK, Europe, and beyond in partnering with them.

"I was delighted to learn that Tree Nation has an API!"

Oh, I do love a good API, and I promptly integrated it into the YourPCM platform. Now, every page view on the platform contributes to a counter, and when a certain threshold is reached, a tree is planted automatically. I also set it up so that new subscribers receive a thank you email with a link to their tree in YourPCM's own forest and my platform shares a 'tree link' on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

You may also be interested to know that the Tree Nation Internet of Trees API is user-friendly and compatible with major e-commerce platforms like Shopify. It enables you to plant a tree for every product sold, or for specific products only!

I couldn't be happier with my decision to integrate Tree Nation into YourPCM and to help offset our carbon emissions. Remember, the trees we plant today will become the forests we enjoy tomorrow.

Why not check out the YourPCM forest sometime?

Love, light and logic ...
