 | PRESENTING: HOW I STOPPED BEING TERRIFIED | | | | | And became awesome instead ... | Posted on 24/01/2012 @ 08:30 |
One of the most frightening things a business owner can do is stand up in front of others and make a presentation. Whether that is a 30-second quick intro or a full blown 20-minute plus discussion on your Company, its services and how you can help those present, the key remains the same ...
present with passion and belief to mesmerize your audience
I'm a serial Networker and try to get to different events a couple of times a week. I have no problem doing my quick intro, a 2 minute summary or even a full blown presentation; it doesn't matter to me. I am confident, animated, passionate and I talk about what I love to do - which is business blogging via sblogit.com. These things are not what I think of myself, however what others say about me. I know this because they tell me.
But you'll probably never guess that 18 months ago I was absolutely terrified to stand up in a crowded room and tell people about myself. I can still remember early networking meetings when my left hand would actually start to shake and I could feel the fear rising from the pit of my stomach.
This was because of a phobia I developed 12 years ago. I was making a presentation to a group of business women during the dot com boom and - due to me pitching my talk on too technical a level - they were all scowling at me, not understanding what I was saying. Ever had one of those "fight or flight" moments? I did; and unfortunately it destroyed my confidence for years to come. All my own fault too!
However, when I started sblogit.com I knew I had to overcome this terror and asked my closest friend Faz Colbhie to help. She has an amazing skill-set with all of her NLP experience and is especially good at Hypnosis. She completely changed my thinking about presentations and squashed the fear flat.
How? By helping my unconscious mind to understand that I am going to be the CEO of a global brand in a couple of years and to be honest, I'll be presenting to much larger groups than the 20 folk or so present at a networking event. She installed belief and confidence in myself and reminded me to be passionate and enthusiastic every time I talk ... and it's remained with me ever since.
These days, you could put me in front of a stadium full of people and I'd still be passionate and enthusiastic about my company and how we can help people make better connections with their customers and clients.
The difference now is that my fear gets channeled into restless energy and you'll find me outside after a presentation prowling around until that - for want of a better word - "euphoria" has dissipated. It usually takes a few minutes and is a pleasure to experience compared to what I used to feel prior to my hypnosis session with Faz. No more shakes for me; just a big grin now!
As a Trainer and Master Practitioner of NLP and Hypnotherapy, she can help you with many different challenges. Faz is a true healer and is happiest when working with individuals, enabling them to face whatever challenges their business or personal life puts in their way.
Hypnosis is just one of her many healing skills and from my own experience, Faz comes highly recommended. Why not visit www.fazcolbhie.com and find out more?
